Down to earth, funny, christian cowboy poet R.P. Smith from Broken Bow, Nebraska. Listen in and you'll be blessed.
PT has been going well and I am amazed how much less painful riding in a vehicle has become in just a week . On Saturday, Beth and I are planning to make a trip to Valentine so we can be present at my induction into the Nebraska Sandhill’s Cowboy Hall of Fame.
My son in law Patrick has provided me with several books to read over the past few weeks, all of them about old time cowboys. After reading an overview of the greatest Bronc riders from Montana to the Mexican Border from 1880 to 2013, I am harboring no illusions that my Bronc Riding ability has any bearing on my being honored by the Nebraska Sandhill’s Cowboy Hall of Fame.
History is written by the winners, ans since I was the winner in one recorded Bronc ride, it seemed appropriate to share that tale from the trail this morning. Take a seat for a piece that I call ‘Pronghorn Promenade.’
Thanks for riding along on homegrown this morning, hoping that the Lord blesses you real good today, that he is raining on your place and that our happy trails cross again soon.
R.P. has some openings if you need an entertaining speaker.

While my daughter, Elissa, to me into town for my first PT session, Beth and th erest of the family were tied up delivering part of this year’s lamb crop to market. This all goes to show that even though I am not turning many wheels, the wheels keep turning, and I am blessed to have the crew that I have.
I’d like to share a Memorial Day poem written quite a few years back. It’s called this one ‘He Laughed’.
Thanks for riding along on homegrown this morning, hoping that the Lord blesses you real good today, that he is raining on your place and that our happy trails cross again soon.

I may not be back in the saddle but at least I am in a chair and at the keyboard, three weeks ago I was dismounted in a very unceremonious way, this is to say, my best efforts did not even come close to matching those of a horse I used to ride. Two and a half of the last three weeks were spent in the excellent care of the team at Bergan Mercy hospital in Omaha Nebraska.
While I was in the hospital I was asked several times a day what my pain level was, on a scale of one to ten, when I got home I posed a question to my son Caleb, trying to pose the question in a positive light, I asked what his love level was for the cattle business, granted they had gone through a tuff day hauling pairs, dealing with some mechanical breakdowns, and not being able to finish the job as planned, he grinned slightly, but did not give me an answer.
I have titled this new poem 'Stepping Off'

No matter how long I play the game, I'm still going to run into some surprises and I may get to play the game a little longer if I'm not working on heifers on the end of a long rope. Seems like a good morning to share a cowie kind of tale that I call 'The Heifer Poem'.

As he learns to appreciate his new hearing aids, RP Smith shares his poem
'The Web'.
A spider web in dew comes clearly into view
between two strands of wire with the sunlight shining through.
I slow now from my duty to closer view the beauty
pasture art appreciation, impromptu.
The reason for its being is not for my scene.
Soon the dry and raise its purpose will restore.
The spider and I, our wider webs will ply
and everything that is beyond we will ignore.
Is it all about survival? Is there time for revival?
As we set about our daily tasks.
In a different light, will what we do seem right?
Do we have the courage to even ask?
Thank you, Lord for your kindness,
to relieve me from my blindness
for a little while, allowing me to view
the loveliness of lace suspended in its place,
and a moment to stop and ponder you.
Ears to hear and eyes to see. Both are gifts from the Lord. Proverbs 20:12
Be tuned into Him today. Thanks for riding along on homegrown this morning, hoping that the Lord blesses you real good today, that he is raining on your place and that our happy trails cross again soon.
